COURSE INFORMATION

CE in the Rockies is held annually in Estes Park, Colorado, the eastern gateway community to Rocky Mountain National Park. Rocky Mountain National Park and Roosevelt National Forest surround the town of Estes Park with spectacular mountain scenery, abundant wildlife habitat, miles of hiking trails and scenic drives including Trail Ridge Road over the Continental Divide and the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway. The four-day program offers a variety of COPE approved continuing education hours leaving free time for leisure activities with family and friends. 

 

This year's program will offer 5 hours of education each day in the following format, for a total of 20 continuing education hours:

BEER, CHILI, & ICE CREAM DINNER

The UHCO Beer, Chili, & Ice Cream Dinner will take place on Thursday, July 25th from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. This dinner event will kick-off the four-day program where course participants, family, and friends are invited to enjoy drinks, food, and good company!

SPEAKER INFORMATION

 

Andrew Gurwood, OD

Dr. Gurwood is a Professor at The Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He is attending staff at the Department of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Dr. Gurwood contributes to numerous publications and lectures throughout North America on the topic of Ocular Disease.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Matt Kauffman, OD

Dr. Kauffman received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. He attended the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO), where he earned his Doctor of Optometry. Afterwards, Dr. Kauffman completed a Residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the University of Missouri St. Louis College of Optometry. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Kauffman returned to Houston, Texas, and worked in a private practice fitting specialty contact lenses. He was also adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Kauffman later joined UHCO as a full-time visiting assistant professor and now serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor and is the current Cornea and Contact Lens Service Director. He enjoys teaching in the Cornea and Contact Lens Service and performing research in the Visual Optics Institute. He also lectures and publishes on the topics of specialty contact lenses and corneal disease. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and the Scleral Lens Society, and a member of the American Optometric Association and Texas Optometric Association.

 


 

Carolyn Majcher, OD

Dr. Majcher is a Doctor of Optometry and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Natural Science from the Robert Cook Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2008. She received her Doctorate of Optometry and Bachelor of Science in Visual Science from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University in 2011 and graduated Summa Cum Laude with advanced retinal and pediatric competencies. While at Salus University, Dr. Majcher received the Dr. John E. and Ethel M. Crozier Memorial Award for excellence in the study of anatomy and pathology as well as the Cooper Vision Excellence in Contact Lens Award. She was awarded M. L. Abramson & E. F. Wildermuth Scholarships in 2009 and 2010 and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Majcher achieved the highest score on the National Board Part 1 Applied Basic Science Examination in her class and was within the top 1% nationwide. In 2012, Dr. Majcher completed a primary care residency at the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry concentrated in ocular disease management. She was one of four recipients awarded an Optometry Residency Matching Service Scholarship given to residents with the highest cumulative scores on all three parts of the National Board Examinations. Following completion of her residency, Dr. Majcher became and remains a full-time faculty member at the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry where she is an Assistant Professor and Chief of the Retina Clinic Service. She is involved in didactic instruction of 2nd and 3rd year students and clinical instruction of 4th year students in the Ocular Disease Clinics. During her time as an instructor, Dr. Majcher received several awards including the Sr. Maria Goretti Zehr Award for Innovation.

 


 

Danica Marrelli, OD, FAAO, CourseMaster

Dr. Marrelli received her doctor of optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry, then completed a residency in hospital-based optometry at the Ft. Howard/Baltimore VA Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. She is currently a clinical professor at UHCO, where she is the service director of the Ocular Diagnostic Service. In the classroom, Dr. Marrelli teaches in the ocular pharmacology, glaucoma and case-based learning courses. She is the director of the ocular disease residency program. Dr. Marrelli is a diplomate in the ocular disease (glaucoma) section of the American Academy of Optometry, and serves on the executive board of the Optometric Glaucoma Society.

 


 

Marc Myers, OD

Dr. Myers is a Senior Staff Optometrist at the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.  He also is guest lecturer and adjunct clinical faculty at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Dr. Myers contributes to numerous publications and lectures throughout North America on the topic of Ocular Disease.
