SPEAKER INFORMATION


Sandra Fortenberry, OD, FAAO, CourseMaster

Dr. Fortenberry is an Associate Professor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry, University of the Incarnate Word. Dr. Fortenberry graduated from Abilene Christian University before finishing optometry school from the University of Houston College of Optometry where she also completed a Community-Based Family Practice Residency. Dr. Fortenberry is currently the Assistant Dean for Professional Advancement where she oversees Continuing Education and Professional Relations at the Rosenberg School of Optometry. Dr. Fortenberry serves on the Board of Trustees as President for the Texas Optometric Association. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a member of the American Optometric Association, where she also was named the 2013 AOA Young OD of the Year.

 

 


 

Marcus Gonzales, OD, FAAO, CourseMaster

Dr. Gonzales received his undergraduate degree at Baylor University and completed his OD degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2006. He then went on to complete an ocular disease residency at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic (formerly Bridge Builders) in Dallas, Texas. He currently serves as the Clinic Director of the inner-city charity clinic caring for a diseased, indigent population.  He was named the 2009 Educator of the Year by the Texas Optometric Association, and he received a President’s Award in 2011. He is a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. His interests are in ocular disease, specifically glaucoma and retinal disease.

 

 


 

 

Noor Abushagur, OD

Dr. Abushagur was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She received her Bachelors degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. She is the current ocular disease resident at Community Eye Clinic in Fort Worth, Texas. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

 

Dominic D'Orazio, OD

Dr. D’Orazio graduated from the IAUPR School of Optometry in 2017. After one year post graduation working with National Vision, he has returned to academics to complete an ocular disease residency.  He is the current resident at Cedar Springs Eye Clinic in Dallas, Texas, with the University of Houston College of Optometry. His interests include ocular disease and primary care optometry.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

 

 

Andrew Kemp, OD, FAAO

Dr. Kemp attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his bachelor of science degree in biology in 2010. He then attended the University of Houston College of Optometry and graduated with honors in 2014 with his doctor of optometry degree. Dr. Kemp completed internships in ocular disease care in a community clinic setting, traumatic brain injury, pediatrics and specialty contact lenses. He was also involved in research on keratoconus in the Texas Eye Research and Technology Center during his time there. After graduation, he was selected for residency training at the Cedar Springs Eye Clinic in Dallas, Texas, where he received extended training and education in the management of ocular diseases including diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and glaucoma along with training with specialty contact lenses aimed for the management and vision rehabilitation of diseased/traumatic corneas. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Kemp joined Lakeline Vision Source in 2015. There he participated in direct patient care, education of office staff, and training of optometric student interns from the University of Houston. Dr. Kemp joined Community Eye Clinic and Cedar Springs Eye Clinic in January 2017 and has passion for teaching, clinical research, and patient care. Dr. Kemp is a licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist, and he is a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Optometry. 

 

 


 

 

Zanna Kruoch, OD, FAAO

Dr. Kruoch graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry with a Doctorate of Optometry in 2009.  She completed a residency with a specialty in advance contact lenses and corneal disease in 2010 at the Illinois College of Optometry. Currently, Dr. Kruoch is Clinical Faculty for a UHCO-affilliated community clinic, Cedar Springs Eye Care, where she works with 4th year optometry students. Dr. Kruoch is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, and was recently named Texas Optometric Association Educator of the year. Her clinical interests include specialty contact lens and ocular disease. 

 


 

 

Roberto (Bobby) Saenz, OD, MS, FAAO

Dr. Saenz graduated summa cum laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry with both his masters and doctorate degree. While in school, he spent his time researching non-invasive imaging to aid in the diagnosis and management of multiple sclerosis and idiopathic intracranial hypertension. After optometry school, Dr. Saenz completed a residency in refractive surgery and ocular disease at Eye Center of Texas in Houston, Texas, and then joined Parkhurst Nuvision in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Saenz has a passion for teaching and not only provides continuing education lectures, but also actively teaches students preparing for Part 1 of NBEO across the nation as an instructor for KMK Educational Services. 

 

 


 

 

Michael Sullivan-Mee, OD, FAAO, AAO, Diplomate (Glaucoma)

Dr. Sullivan-Mee is Chief of Optometry at the Albuquerque VA Medical Center. He earned his clinical diplomate credential from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) in 2006 and serves as the glaucoma diplomate chair for the AAO Glaucoma Section. He is vice-chair for the AAO’s scientific program committee, and has published numerous clinical research papers in high-level journals including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Science, and Optometry and Vision Science. He holds adjunct faculty appointments at several academic institutions including the University of Houston College of Optometry and the University of New Mexico School of Medicine.

 

 


 

 

Christopher Wroten, OD, FAAO

After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Louisiana State University, Dr. Wroten graduated from Southern College of Optometry (SCO) before completing a Residency in Hospital-based Primary Eye Care at the Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Wroten is a partner at the Bond-Wroten Eye Clinics, with three offices in southeast Louisiana and serves as the clinic’s Chief Operating Officer, while supervising its Primary Care & Ocular Disease Residency, and Student Externship Programs, both of which he founded. He has received appointment as Adjunct Faculty at several schools and colleges of optometry, has twice been elected President of the Optometry Association of Louisiana (OAL), co-chairs the OAL Education Committee, is Vice-Chair of SECO International’s Education Committee, serves on the Louisiana State Board of Optometry Examiners, has been appointed to numerous committees within the American Optometric Association, and serves on the Board of Trustees for SCO. Dr. Wroten has lectured internationally, participated in clinical research, and has been the recipient of several professional awards throughout his career.
