This course meets the Two-Hour "Controlled Substances" requirement for Texas Optometric Glaucoma Specialists.

 

Please Note: This course DOES NOT meet the one-hour "Opioids" requirement for Texas Licensees.

 

Learn about the rationale behind prescription drug designations for controlled substances for the purpose of drug misuse prevention. Additionally, procedures for the safe prescribing and monitoring of these substances will be discussed in order to combat the growing prescription drug abuse epidemic.

 

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to

  • Identify relevant federal and state laws for controlled substances
  • Understand the consequences of drug misuse and abuse
  • Formulate strategies for the safe prescribing of controlled substances
  • Outline clinical indications for prescribing controlled substances in eye care
  • Utilize drug monitoring programs to maximize best outcome

Biography:
Dr. David Dinh hails from Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. He then received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry where he received multiple honors and awards from his colleagues and professors in recognition for his excellence in pediatrics as well as his leadership
